During recent joint military exercises with Cambodia, China unveiled its newest weapon of war: a robot dog equipped with a machine gun. The mega military operation is called “Golden Dragon”, has more than 2 thousand soldiers, 12 ships and lasts 15 days.

The video showing the lethal robot dog was published on YouTube, by the China Central Television (CCTV) channel. The military did not provide details of the equipment’s firepower, which must be related to the weapon used and the limitation of movement.

Still, CCTV talked about some of the machine’s capabilities, which also has a version without weapons. The robots are operated by remote control, have a battery life of up to four hours and can move forward, backward, jump, crouch, plan routes and more. Check out the video below:

In the video, one of the soldiers says that the armed robot dog could replace human soldiers in urban operations or on the battlefield.

The machine would be useful for area reconnaissance, as well as target identification and attack. It is possible to see the machine leading a platoon during a simulated activity.

Armed robot dogs are nothing new

This is not the first time that a robot dog equipped with a rifle on its back has been revealed to the public.

In 2021, Ghost Robotics showed off its armed robot dog made in partnership with Sword Defense. Although the equipment is from an American company, the US military had only tested (at least openly) machines without weapons until now.

However, this month the US Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) revealed that it is testing a robot dog very similar to the one made in China. In fact, this is the same equipment shown by Ghost Robotics three years ago.

Furthermore, China itself carried out military exercises with robots of the same type last year, more precisely in November. The video was also published by CCTV.

On another occasion (October 2022), the country showed a robot dog armed with a machine gun. This model was integrated into a drone, and could be carried and deployed remotely at the combat site.
