The Galaxy Z Flip 6 was finally officially announced by Samsung this Wednesday (10). The new flip-style foldable from the South Korean manufacturer maintains the proposal of the previous device, but without embracing as many visual changes as the larger foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

A Samsung didn’t invest in any major innovations in the Galaxy Z Flip 6so it’s easier to point out the improvements compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Overall, the flip foldable continues with the idea of being a more stylish device, sold in a good variety of colors and offering a more fashion.

As always, the device’s hinge has been improved to offer more durability and, like other devices from the company, the sides are now straighter. Below, see the main improvements of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

1. 50 MP main camera

Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 now ships with a 50 MP camera. The sensor is the main one of the rear duo, composed with optical stabilization (OIS), f/1.8 aperture, pixel size of 1.12 µm and field of view of 85°.

This is a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s 12MP main camera, perhaps reason enough to buy the newer device. The higher resolution, although only one of the determining factors for the quality of a capture, allows for better capture of framing information, thus ensuring better quality photos and videos.

The main lens is also accompanied by interesting functions such as auto zoom and several exclusive Galaxy AI capabilities.

2. New processor and more RAM

O Galaxy Z Flip 6 embarca o chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. The processor is the direct successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 present in the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Overall, the new System-on-a-Chip (SoC) offers better performance for all activities, from the lightest to the most demanding, including gaming, image processing and artificial intelligence acceleration. The processor should also have more headroom to perform tasks thanks to the 12 GB of RAM in the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is also superior to the previous generation’s foldable (8 GB).

3. More eye-catching design

O Galaxy Z Flip 6 may not have significant design changesbut it focuses more on color variety than the Z Flip 5. Instead of displaying the chosen color only on the back cover, more parts of the phone are colored with the chosen palette, such as the rings around the cameras.

The sides of the device are straighter and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is thinner and more discreet. Below, check out the dimensions comparison with last year’s model:

  • Galaxy Z Flip 6 (aberto): 71,9 x 165,1 x 6,9 mm;
  • Galaxy Z Flip 5 (aberto): 71,9 x 165,1 x 6,9 mm;
  • Galaxy Z Flip 6 (dobrado): 71,9 x 85,1 x 14,9 mm;
  • Galaxy Z Flip 6 (dobrado): 71,9 x 85,1 x 15,1 mm.

At the event, the TecMundo found that the crease in the middle of the screen is more discreet. Therefore, the device is more “flat” when folded.

4. IP48 certification

O Galaxy Z Flip 6 is now dust resistant (IP48)unlike the Z Flip 5 (IPX8) which is only waterproof. The advancement is quite interesting, especially considering the more fragile structure of the foldable, thus allowing the user to be more relaxed about handling the device in less than ideal conditions.

5. Better heat dissipation

Finally, this year’s launch marks the debut of heat dissipation via a vapor chamber. The structure promises better cooling of the device, thus making it possible to maintain the processor’s high performance for longer.

6. More battery

O Galaxy Z Flip 6 ships with a 4,000 mAh batterycompared to the 3,700 mAh of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It is a discreet, perhaps imperceptible improvement to the device’s autonomy, compared to the change in other components that also interfere with the cell phone’s activity (chipset and cameras).

What hasn’t changed?

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 isn’t much different from the previous model. Below, check out what remains identical between the devices.

The main screen of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 is 6.7 inches in Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, has a 120 Hz maximum refresh rate and 2640 x 1080p resolution. The external screen of the device is 3.4″ Super AMOLED, 60 Hz in 720 x 748p resolution.

The lack of changes to the external screen makes the Galaxy Z Flip 6 look very similar to the previous model. Even the cutout for the rear cameras maintains the same pattern.

Secondary and front camera

The secondary and front cameras of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Flip 5 are practically identical. On the rear, the ultrawide lens has 12 MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture. The front, in turn, has 10 MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture on both models.
