PlayStation has launched a new range of collectible figures in collaboration with Canadian toymaker Spin Master, as announced on July 3. The collection, called The Shapes Collection, is inspired by iconic PlayStation games and features characters from God of War Ragnarok, Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West.

Spin Master, which entered into a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2022, became the official creator of toys and collectibles for major PlayStation titles. The Shapes Collection is their first project since acquiring this license and promises fans a more interactive experience with their favorite games and characters. These physical collectibles bring the digital world to life and give players something to display in their homes.

The collection, which will be available from August 15, 2024, can be pre-ordered on PlayStation Gear and will also be available for purchase on Amazon US and Australia.

Details van The Shapes Collection

The Shapes Collection features five characters from beloved PlayStation games. The first figure, Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West, retails for $49.99 and comes with 12 accessories and 42 points of articulation. Arno Schmitz, lead character artist at Guerilla, shared his experience working on the Aloy figure with Spin Master. He emphasized the importance of logical articulation points and pointed out the use of actual digital sculpts from the games. Schmitz noted:

“A personal highlight was providing different facial expressions for Aloy, making her a very poseable figure with lots of points of movement, even in her hair.”

Other characters in the collection include Varl from Horizon Forbidden West, Kratos and Atreus from God of War Ragnarok, and Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. The figures come with 2-4 accessories and 24-34 points of articulation, and each stand 6-inches tall. Sucker Punch Creative Director Jason Connell praised the intricate detailing of Jin’s Ghost Armor, highlighting the elaborate cloth patterns and overlapping armor plates that define the character’s design.

PlayStation Stars Digital Collectibles Program

Since 2022, PlayStation has been offering its loyal consumers digital collectibles through the PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program. These campaigns take place monthly, with the last release in June 2024. PlayStation Stars will return soon with a phased regional rollout, as announced by PlayStation: “Thank you for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you back.”

However, the program has been offline for nearly a month due to issues with the PlayStation App. A recent update indicated that the app will soon provide access to the digital collectibles again, much to the delight of loyal PlayStation fans.
