Samsung launched a new sneaker capable of controlling your cell phone. Called “Shortcut Sneaker”, the new shoe interprets movements of your foot to perform specific actions on your cell phone.

Touted by Samsung as “the sneaker of the future”, the Shortcut Sneaker was developed in collaboration with brands Cheil Benelux, Elitac Wearables, Brut Amsterdam and Roel van Hoff. The piece features an eye-catching design, with different textures throughout the body, and shiny details that refer to the sky at night — probably, in reference to the Galaxy cell phone family.

The new sneaker is equipped with sensors that monitor the position and movement of the feet. With them, the user can configure up to five different shortcuts for movements, offering several possibilities to facilitate the use of the phone. You can also make or answer calls, control music or other basic actions.

“If Samsung makes a sneaker, we owe it to our stand to put innovation into it. In any case, Roel van Hoff’s design makes it a special sneaker, but in combination with this technology we managed to create something that the loyal Samsung community will love”, said the creative directors at Cheil Benelux.

Exclusive and limited product

However, Samsung’s new Shortcut Sneakers will not be sold to the general public. The new accessories will only be offered to consumers signed up for Samsung Members in the Netherlands and only six pairs will be given away — so it’s almost like a collector’s item.

The models will also not be sold, but raffled off among fans — making the search even more intense. Anyone interested can register on the Samsung Members app by July 9th this year and the winners will be announced in the second week of the same month.
