Thanks to payment terminals developed by the French company Lyzi, merchants hope to reach new customers.
A first in France. Merchants in the city of Talence, a town of more than 44,000 inhabitants in the suburbs of Bordeaux in Gironde (Nouvelle-Aquitaine region), now accept payments in cryptocurrencies.
Concretely, customers will be able to pay for their products by directly scanning a QR Code (generated in a few seconds by the merchant, as if the latter were entering an amount to pay on his TPE – electronic payment terminal). This system will then make it possible to pay with an online wallet such as those of Binance or Crypto.com.
The Talence merchant associations have chosen to partner with the French company Lyzi to equip their stores with special payment terminals so that their customers can pay in cryptocurrencies.
“It’s an additional and easy-to-use payment method,” Lucie Heigeas, president of the downtown merchants’ association “Cœur de Talence” and manager of the clothing store “Les Pipelettes”, explains to BFM Crypto. “Those who will offer this system are only local businesses.”
The number of traders registered to test this new feature “is around 30”, she specifies. The solution is already equipped on the terminals of a dozen businesses.
“Attracting a new, young, international clientele”
“The city of Talence is very proud to become a pioneer in crypto payment in France and continues to offer the best to its inhabitants, including the latest technological innovations,” said Emmanuel Sallaberry, mayor of Talence since 2017 in a published press release. by Lyzi.
“This alternative payment method will allow our merchants to attract a new young and international clientele, and to get a foothold in the Web3 revolution,” he continues.
This is not the first time that Lyzi has helped stores implement cryptocurrency payment solutions. It has also signed a partnership with Apsy shopping centers in 2022. This allows, for example, customers from the Beaugrenelle shopping center in the 15th arrondissement of Paris to use their cryptocurrencies to pay for their gift cards. These can be used in all the shops and restaurants in this shopping center.
Although no precise date for the commissioning of these TPEs has yet been communicated to certain traders, Lucie Heigeas hopes for the arrival of this new generalized payment system “during the summer” or “early September”.
