Brazilian UFC fighter Renato Moicano won the UFC 300 fight last weekend and delivered a remarkable victory speech. Moicano wants to receive the $300,000 bonus in Bitcoin (BTC) just hours before the organization made a decision.

The UFC fighter posted the request on X (formerly Twitter), after which followers of the crypto market responded en masse.

However, in the end, Max Holloway, rather than Moicano, received the $300,000 bonus for ‘Performance of the Night’ after an impressive victory against Justin Gaethje. Despite missing out on the bonus, Renato Moicano showed good sportsmanship by saying Holloway deserved the award.

“Lee’s Ludwig Von Mises”

It wasn’t all. Because the lightweight fighter made another unusual speech after his victory over Jalin Turner. “First of all, I love America, I love the Constitution, I love the First Amendment, I want to bear and own guns, I love property. And late me tell you something, if you care about your country, read Ludwig Von Mises and the Six Lessons of the Austrian Economic School.”

Students For Liberty explained in a tweet that the UFC 300 winner referenced Mises’ book “Economic Policy: Thoughts for Today and Tomorrow.”

Bitcoin and the Austrian Economy

Economist Ludwig Von Mises has described inflation and its damaging effects on global economies, and that idea resonates very well in the bitcoin community. Bitcoin is being put forward by more and more experts and users as an instrument to protect you (in the long term) against inflation, a function that gold also still fulfills. The fact that a top athlete now explicitly asks for a bonus in bitcoin is a signal that adoption among athletes continues to grow. And a good time for bitcoin to take the spotlight during this well-watched sporting event.
